RALEIGH, NC (Sept 23, 2016) – The ATHENA of the Triangle Women’s Leadership Luncheon is a unique event which incorporates a dialogue about the key attributes of successful women leaders to further the development and support of established and emerging leaders across the Triangle. The event is pleased to have the participation of senior women facilitators who work as entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, government and academic leaders from across the Triangle. Additionally, we are honored to have the participation of a visiting delegation of dignitaries and senior women leaders from Kenya, including Dr. Ida Odinga.
Held on Thursday, September 29th at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC, the event brings together both established and emerging women leaders from across the Triangle and across the globe. The format is a dialogue about the eight distinct leadership attributes that are reflective of women’s contribution to leadership. The luncheon is centered on a discussion around the ATHENA Leadership Model™. The model was established via a joint effort between the W. K. Kellogg Foundation and ATHENA International and highlights key attributes identified to be prominent among women leaders: Authenticity, Relationship Building, Giving Back, Acting Courageously, Continuous Learning, Fostering Collaboration, Advocating Fiercely, and Celebration.
ATHENA International and local chapters from across the globe sponsor events just like this one during September as part of ATHENA International’s focus. The ATHENA of the Triangle event is the inaugural event for the local chapter and one that they intend to host annually. In addition to the participation as facilitators of local leaders from across the diverse and rich Triangle Region, the group is honored to also have participation from a visiting contingency of dignitaries and senior women leaders from Kenya. This Kenyan contingency is led by Dr. Ida Odinga, a Kenyan businesswoman, activist and educator who is also the wife of former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga. The group will be participating in events at the NC State Governor’s Mansion as part of a UN Women event the day prior to the ATHENA Women’s Leadership Luncheon.
The mission of Athena of the Triangle is to empower women as strong leaders, either in multi-national corporations, in their own business ventures as entrepreneurs, or within academic or public sector institutions. The ATHENAPowerlink® program is a business advisory program, currently active in 30 cities, that “links” women owned businesses with a volunteer panel of professional advisors from the community for one year to achieve the goals she has identified for her business. The ATHENA Leadership Luncheon program was developed to extend a hand to the next generation of women leaders.
